Stuck in Depression – How to escape and move forward

Many people become stuck in depression for so long that they feel there is no way out.  For many people, depression even becomes a familiar way of approaching  their life.  They identify themselves as depressed and tell people 'I have depression'.  But what is depression and how can we avoid becoming stuck in depression?  The de-pression literally means 'held down'. What are you holding down? What aren't you facing in your life that is causing you so much angst?  What memories or feelings have become so held down that you literally feel depressed, as if there is a weight on your shoulders? When someone feels depressed, they often reduce exercise and self-care.  This exacerbates the situation and movement of the body particularly is an excellent way to begin to break the cycle of spiralling depression.  Incorporate exercise – regular walking in the fresh air is best – to begin breaking the cycle of seeing yourself as depressed with no way out.   Seeking assistance to identify the cause of 'your' depression is often necessary to get you back on track.

    I have anxiety, cyclothymia and depression. It’s really hard because I’m only thirteen and I often feel like I shouldn’t have to deal with these things. I have to keep reminding myself of all the people who have it worse. But I am dealing with it. I think haha.
